July 29, 2026

Members of the North Highlands Fire Department responded to a residence surrounded by flooding and swift-moving water, where residents needed assistance evacuating the home.

Due to the dangerous conditions and rising floodwaters, the department utilized a front-end loader from the Philipstown Highway Department to safely reach the residence and assist in removing the family from the home.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene to assist with the operation, including Putnam County Car 2, Putnam County Battalion 19, Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Putnam Medic 1, Mahopac Falls Dive Team, Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Putnam County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, and the Philipstown Highway Department.

A New York State Swift Water Rescue team was also dispatched to the incident but was canceled while en route after the residents were successfully removed from the home.

The North Highlands Fire Department would like to thank all of the responding agencies and personnel who assisted during the incident. Their coordinated efforts helped ensure the residents were safely evacuated from the flooded property.
